Simulated Molecular Gas Emission in Galaxy Mergers with Embedded AGN

چکیده
We investigate the effect of embedded active galactic nuclei (AGN) in galaxy mergers on the CO molecular line emission by combining non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) radiative transfer calculations with hydrodynamic simulations. We find that AGN feedback energy in gas rich galaxy mergers can contribute to large molecular outflows which may be detectable via velocityintegrated emission contour maps, as well as through kinematic features in the emission line profiles.

Simulated Molecular Outflows in Galaxy Mergers with Embedded AGN
We study the effects of feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) on emission from molecular gas in galaxy mergers by combining hydrodynamic simulations that include black holes with a three-dimensional, non–local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) radiative transfer code. We find that molecular clouds entrained in AGN winds produce an extended CO morphology with significant off-nuclear emission...
متن کاملThe Role of Galactic Winds on Molecular Gas Emission from Galaxy Mergers
Galactic winds from starbursts and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are thought to play an important role in driving galaxies along the starburst-AGN sequence. Here, we assess the impact of these winds on the CO emission from galaxy mergers, and, in particular, search for signatures of starburst and AGN-feedback driven winds in the simulated CO morphologies and emission line profiles. We do so by c...

متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملHigh-resolution imaging of the molecular outflows in two mergers: IRAS 17208-0014 and NGC 1614⋆
Context. Galaxy evolution scenarios predict that the feedback of star formation and nuclear activity (AGN) can drive the transformation of gas-rich spiral mergers into (ultra) luminous infrared galaxies and, eventually, lead to the build-up of QSO/elliptical hosts. Aims. We study the role that star formation and AGN feedback have in launching and maintaining the molecular outflows in two starbu...
